Summary:
Title: Engineer-in-Training, Cost Engineering
Employment Type: Full-Time
Hours: 40 hours per week
Location: Edmonton, AB (Hybrid, 3 days per week on site)
Target Start Date: Summer 2025
About this Role:
Essential Tasks - In this job, you will:
- Manage and analyze historical project databases.
- Identify and implement processes to improve database accuracy and quality.
- Work with internal partners to develop cost estimating tools and manage their calibration on a regular basis.
- Coordinate various special studies and other initiatives relating to cost engineering, project development, and project performance analysis.
- Create reports and work for the senior management on an ad hoc basis.
- Proactively identify, coordinate, and implement process improvements in the project development, cost engineering tools and related areas to improve quality and accuracy of capital projects.
- Facilitate project definition sessions with a team of domain experts to quantity capital cost contingency.
- Lead problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Share knowledge with team members and internal partners through training, promotion of standard processes and ongoing support.
General Skills and Abilities - You are:
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Digital/Technical Skills & Tools - You are:
- Intermediate data management skills (such as transferring information, using basic formulas, creating charts/graphs) using Microsoft Excel.
- Nice to have (but not required):
- Basic knowledge of Power BI, computer programming and coding
Education/Knowledge - You:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Registered or eligible to register with APEGA as an Engineer-In-Training
- Nice to have (but not required):
- Familiarity with Association of Advancement in Cost Engineering (AACE), and Project Management Institution (PMI) principals would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of functions and processes including cost control, cost estimating, change management, project development and benchmarking practices.
Experience (Professional, Academic, Personal) - You:
- 2-4 years of proven experience in cost engineering, data management, data analytics, cost estimating, project controls or project management.
